Norwich
Citadel Band
Perhaps
one of
the most public faces of The Salvation Army today is
that of the brass band playing outdoors. Norwich Citadel Band is often
to be
found playing on Hay Hill, leading a short musical service around
midday on a
Sunday.
The
thirty-strong band today under the direction of Bandmaster Richard
Woodrow, regularly undertakes concerts and other events in and around
Norwich and
further afield. The
Band is well travelled both in this |

|
country
and around the world,
having visited North America, Scandinavia, the Netherlands and
South
Africa proclaiming it's Christian message in music.
Please
visit the
Band's own
website at www.norwichcitadelband.org.uk
for
interesting information about
it's long history, forthcoming events, CD recordings to listen to and
to
purchase and a gallery of photographs of the Band through the years to
the
present. |

Norwich
Citadel Songsters
The
Songsters, our choir, is made up of men and women of all ages. Under
the direction of
Songster Leader Hilary Winch, we participate in the majority of
Sunday services as an aid to worship. We also consider our singing an
act of worship to God. The Songsters have sung in Salvation Army
churches around Great Britain, and sang in the Royal Albert Hall on
several occasions, as part of a massed chorus and as a solo choir.

him with the sounding of the trumpet, praise him with the harp and
lyre, praise him with tambourine and dancing, praise him with the
strings and flute."

Norwich
Citadel Young
People's Band (YP Band)
There
has been a Young
People's Band at Norwich Citadel since the early 1900s, when a
Salvationist periodical noted that they 'pioneered the way and showed
that the work can be done successfully', and 'is providing a great
attraction to the children in the poorer parts of Norwich.'
Since those
early days, Bandleaders have endeavoured to maintain a high standard of
musicianship and Christian service. Consequently, the Band has been
fortunate enough to carry out its ministry much further afield,
travelling throughout the UK for 'away' weekends. A highlight
in
this regard was an invitation to appear as the guest solo Band at the
1995 Youth Spectacular Event, held at the Regent Hall
Corps. The
Band also supports local churches and other organisations when
requested, and has taken parts in local and national radio and
television broadcasts.
The YP Band is
also considered a 'training ground' for the Norwich
Citadel Band. Our current Young People's Band Leader is Andrew Gibson.
Norwich
Citadel Singing Company
The
Singing
Company is the junior choir at Norwich Citadel. We are a lively group
of young people, boys and girls, aged 7-18. We practise every week, and
participate in the Sunday services, as well as special events at
Christmas, visits away and local events.

|
| We have
a team of adults who lead and teach us, led by Lindsey Johnson.
They
also provide support and musical accompaniment.
We sing a variety of
music including worship
songs, contemporary and traditional styles,
alongside fun stuff too. |
